DAVEY ASPREY TO PLAY THE LAST EVER SMACK ALONGSIDE JON O’BIR FRIDAY 17TH AUGUST

Statement from Smack:

“This is not a decision we have made overnight, every possibility has been looked at to keep the nights going, with them being relatively successful it has made the decision even harder.

The SMACK! Team would like everyone that has helped flyer, poster and generally help out. Without peoples help this would not have worked. We would also like to thank all the DJs that have played for us from our first event in August 2011. Every set has been fantastic and we are proud to have had each and every one of you play for us. Also we would like to thank everyone that has came to one of our events, even if you only attended once we still appreciate your support.

We never set out to move mountains and compete with the big events in the Trance scene, we just wanted to provide a big City with a successful Trance event for like-minded people that wouldn’t break the partygoer’s bank. We think we managed to do that.

Finally, the event on August 17th will be the biggest trance event to hit Coventry in over a year. The last two times Jon O’Bir came to town he played at Careys, which was packed and it is a much bigger venue than Crosbys. With early bird tickets sold out and Advance tickets selling well (already the most we have ever sold online) this is sure to be a night to remember.”

A YEAR HAS FLOWN BY FOR SMACK! AND WE THOUGHT WE WOULD CELEBRATE IN STYLE. COVENTRY’S ONLY TRANCE EVENT HAS PULLED IN ONE OF THE BIGGEST TRANCE DJS IN THE UK
JON O’BIR

Jon’s life changed back in September 2002 when he won a DJ competition for Passion and M8 magazine, beating 300 other aspiring DJs. GODSKITCHEN soon offered Jon a residency and the prospect of a fledging career as Britain’s next DJ sensation.
Appearances on the Essential selection and Fergies RADIO1 show as well as a trip to Holland for a guest mix on ARMIN VAN BUUREN’S popular A STATE OF TRANCE show propelled his name to a wider audience.

In 2005 Jon made an appearance on the world famous Essential Mix and in 2006 Radio 1 offered Jon a slot on The Residency alongside 6 other DJs including EDDIE HALLIWELL and NIC FANCIULLI in which they presented 6 of their own shows, broadcast live on the UKs most listened to radio station.
He also became involved in RADIO1 events such as ONE BIG WEEKEND in Sunderland and RADIO 1s 10 years in Ibiza live from SPACE, IBIZA, this showcased Jon’s talent to a huge audience. After the success of The Residency, Jon started his own monthly show Ways & Means which continues to grow in popularity with listeners and with various worldwide radio stations airing the show on a regular basis.

During his residency at GODSKITCHEN, Jon gained respect from DJs and clubbers for his flawless warm up and energetic peak time sets. He showed how diverse his resident skills were by warming up for SASHA, TIESTO, PAUL VAN DYK and many more big name acts. He also kept the dance floor rocking, playing after these A-list DJs. Playing at Air and other huge GODSKITCHEN events, such as GLOBAL GATHERING, other clubs and other big events soon filled up Jon’s diary, these included HOMELANDS, GATECRASHER, SLINKY and international venues in U.S.A, Asia and Europe. Jon still plays regular GODSKITCHEN events despite the residency ending in 2006 and as each month progresses more and more venues show their interests in booking this skilled artist.

Jon has been as hot in the studio as he has been on the DJ circuit. One of his early productions Ways & Means was named after his radio show and which was also remixed by Trance god PAUL VAN DYK, became a huge release in 2008. His debut album From Within followed shortly after, with PAUL VAN DYK again being involved, releasing it on the massive VANDIT Records. 2010 was a very successful year for O’Birs productions. Out of Touch, Never Enough Stringer and Found A Way all delivered with plays from all the top jocks and 2 high acclaimed Beatport Trance number 1s in Never Enough and Found A Way, the latter being included in ARMIN VAN BUUREN’S top 10 tracks of 2010.

Armin van Buuren: “I’ve been impressed with Jon’s recent production work as Aira Force and his A&R work for conspiracy. The man is clearly on a mission to push his own unique trance sound. He’s still young and has already established his name with the trance elite. He can only get bigger. Don’t say I haven’t told you so.”

Paul van Dyk: “Jon O’Bir is without doubt one of the most exciting producers in the world today. A major up & coming talent that has developed within the shortest time through his highly acclaimed, cutting-edge productions and sets into a leader of next generations DJs and producers. His music is on the spot with warm, beautiful and captivating melodies, reflecting his passion and enthusiasm for electronic dance music. Jon’s inspired productions are becoming a standard for the best in melodic, electronic dance music and guarantee a bright future for this young and promising talent. ”
